Championship club Birmingham City have reportedly set their sights on securing the services of current Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong for one more year.

The 22-year-old Dutchman has found back of the net once and provided two assists in 19 Championship appearances during this season, which was disrupted for Chong between November and February, when he had surgery on groin injury.

However, despite a limited number of matches in a Birmingham shirt, the forward has impressed head-coach Lee Bowyer, who is believed to want to keep the youngster for another campaign.

The Mirror claims that any deal for Birmingham to secure Chong’s services for the 2022-23 season will have to wait, as the Red Devils want the young Dutch international to take part in their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

The 20-times English champions, last game during their pre-season tour will be on 19 July, and the Championship season kicks off just 11 days after that date, meaning that the Birmingham City will have to work quickly to keep Chong at the club for one more year.
